Brief Description:  Remote compass bracket

I continued to work on items on the tail section so I can get that closed up in the next couple of weeks. Yesterday I did not get into the shop at all but I did work on getting some of my panel items ready to ship to Stark Avionics, John will be selling me most of my avionics and cutting my panel for the instruments. I had to make a bracket to hold the remote compass for the Dynon FlightDEK 180. It has to be located away from ferrous metals and it must be in the same plane as the instrument panel. After doing a lot of research of other builder’s sites I decided on the fuselage bulkhead, same on the static system attaches too. The other two popular locations are the outside wing rib and the deck under the vertical stab. I think the rear deck under the VS is too close to the steel elevator weld mounts.

It took me a while to lay out an idea on paper, once I was happy with that I transferred this to a sheet of aluminum and the cut it out. I used my small bending brake to make the bends and I must say I am happy with the results The sides are a little flimsy, I should have flanged them as well but I made a doubler for the sides that I will rivet on tomorrow. If I still don’t like it I might rivet on a stiffener. I missed by just a bit on the angle but I can add washers under the remote compass to get the unit in plane with the instrument panel. Certainly was a lot of time for one damm bracket!
