Brief Description:  Hung the rudder and trimed the stops

I called Van’s this morning and confirmed that the little bit of difference I have in the elevator balance arms is no problem. I also asked about my elevator stops. Right now only one horn hits the stop due to a slight difference in the angle of the elevators horns (the right side sits slightly further aft than the left), this is common with the welded elevator horns. Scott at Van’s said I could leave it this way but I could also trim the right side some so that both horns touch the stop at the same time. I decided to trim more from the right aft stop now both horns hit the stop at the same time. This gives me a little more nose up travel; it is now 28.3, very close to the 30 degree maximum.

I finished riveting the F884 attach bracket to the VS forward spar and then bolted the VS back in place. Getting to the nuts on the aft bulkhead is a little difficult with the elevator horns in the way but doable. I then measured everything just to make sure everything was still set, and it was spot on. I hung the rudder and then marked and trimmed the rudder stops. I don’t have a protractor but using my plotter and eyeballing things it looks like I will have 35 degrees of rudder travel which is the maximum. The next item in the plans is to attach the flap motor but I seem to be missing the A-406 aileron bracket that is used to attach the upper shaft of the flap actuator. I will have to check my inventory, but I am fairly certain I did not receive this part. After my inventory all small parts where put into small clear plastic containers so if it was in my kit it would be there. Most of the containers are only left with a few items. Van’s is really good about sending along lost item like this at no charge.
