Today I spent a couple of hours finishing up the rudder pedal assembly. I first deburred the spacer plates and then back riveted the two rivets. The next thing was to drill the release pin; you cut the head off of a clevis pin to length and then drill the hole to 3/32. I then had to drive a pin into the hole, it was then that I realized that I did not drill the 3/32 hole perfectly straight. It was not off by much, and after installing the pin into the assembly it all works just fine. The release assembly is a very clever design. The last thing I did was to cut a section of aluminum tube to install as a bushing to protect the cable as it goes through the guide on top of the F818 socket bracket. I am going to wait on the cable handle until I know how long I want the cable. I want to sit in the seat and try it out a few times before I commit to a size and I would also like to see if there is a better handle idea other than the aluminum tube the plans call for.
I used this gaget to back rivet the release assembly
When you pull the cable the pin is pulled up but not enough to pull the pin entirely out.
In the front the cable goes through a guide, a section of aluminum tube acts to protect the cable.
