Brief Description:  Rivet on tail tie down

My friend Rich was on a long SEA layover so he stayed with us which was great, I had the chance to ask lot of questions and do some riveting. Most of the day was spent with me asking Rich questions but we did manage to countersink the 4 holes that hold on the tail tie down. Not installing the tie down when the F-812 bulkhead was installed seems kind of dumb but I guess they need to make work for those of us with the QB. I did not want to try to dimple C/S the holes in the bulkhead because it was doubled up, Gus’s at Van’s said I could machine C/S these 4 holes, there will be 4 bolts that will go through the Vertical Stab that will be the real holding power for the tie down so these 4 rivets are just keeps. The counter sinks and riveting when fine.

I can’t tell you how great it was to have another RV-8 builder here. It is one thing to talk about issues it is even better when you can actually point and hold the parts in question. The nice part was it seems I am doing good work, which is always nice to hear. Even the things I thought were not so great seem to be fine. I logged less than an hour of buildtime today, but there was a near endless RV building discussion. Not counted as build time but just as important.
