Brief Description:  Installed (R) longeron console nuts

Today was mainly prime parts day. I have a friend coming into town who had been flying his RV-8 for a few years and I want to pick his brain and get his help installing my tail tie down. I need to prime the tie down, so per my usual I try to get a bunch of parts together to prime. So today I primed the tie down along with the F-804 caps, the mid cabin consoles and the rear seat pedal braces.

After this I did the free hand counter sinks for the right longeron console holes. I used my angle drill this time and they turned out much better than the left. Even though I had trouble riveting the left nut plates I gave the right a try. They turn our great. I think on the left I was pushing up too much with the bucking bar, along with the counter sinks not being very good. But now all of the nut plates are installed. I moved onto the right upper console, you have to drill 2 holes for nut plates into the F-804 cap which I had to cleco in place.

The F-804 bulkheads on my QB came with buckles in them; I talked about this in a previous post when I first picked up my kit. Van’s said this will be fine and they are correct. It did take about 8 wing nut draw clecos to get the parts pulled up tight, but they do tighten up nicely. I don’t have enough of these for both sides so I have an order for more on the way. After drilling the holes I removed the F-804 cap and installed the nut plates.
