I started the fuselage with the step. The plans call for inserting the landing gear and drilling the bolt hole the holds the gear in place but I need the .311 ream and some other tools to get this done so the gear will have to wait. They have you drill the gear and then remove them to storage anyways so not rush. I just can’t install anything in the interior that will hinder the drilling later on.
On the QB the hole for the step is mostly there, you just might have to open it up in areas to accommodate for the welds on the step which I had to do. The curve of the step does not match the fuselage very well. I heated up the step and took a hammer to it which helped but I am not getting a flush fit. It seems they form the shape then weld the parts together and they get out of shape from the welding. I have 2/32 spaces in places between the step and the skin. I am going to ask around and see if this will pull up tight or what my other options might be to solve this issue. Once again it is not the building it is the problem solving.
