Brief Description:  Rear control cover con't

I continued work on the aft control cover. I had to widen the opening on the left side of the cover to clear the wire cable that comes out of the stick. I had initially cut the opening to clear the aft control column but with the stick installed and the slack in the wire needed, the cable pinched when the stick was full left. I trimmed the opening so the cable touches but does not pinch. My thought is with the aileron push rods installed the aileron stops will limit the control throw such that there will be no interference with the control cover. My assumption is that the control throw allowed without the ailerons hooked up will be more than the control through required with the ailerons.

While fitting things up to drill for the screws I discovered the flange on the side did not line up with the existing holes in the floor, which made sense after I thought about it. The cover was made to clear the front seat belt anchors, doing this means any flange is not aligned with the holes in the floor. After looking at it some I decided that part did not need to be screwed to the floor, so I cut off the flange there.

I then drilled all the holes for the #8 screws and installed the nut plates after I primed the cover parts. I tapped the 3 aft control mount holes for #8 screws. Next time the floor needs to be installed I will test fit the cover. I will wait to paint the cover until after I confirm I don’t need to trim more of the opening to clear the controls.

Full left, wire just touches but is not pinched. After ailerons are rigged, I will confirm this
