Brief Description:  Rivet left elevator understructure

A good and bad day today, it was good because I was driving rivets; it was bad because I made another bone head mistake. I started the riveting of the left elevator and all went well until I had to put he counterweight in place, it was then that I realized I drilled the holes with the counterweight facing inboard instead of out. It would not be so bad if I had not already messed up a counterweight by cutting it like the right side when the left is supposed to stay the way Van’s sends it to you. Well, I guess in my hast to move on after the new weight came in I clecoed the 713 skin on the wrong way to the ribs and did not realize it, not the counterweight fits but 180 degrees out from what it should be. I have the left over pieces of lead that I cut so I am thinking I can melt up the lead fill in the holes that are in the wrong place and then re-drill the holes correctly. Like everything you do wrong it adds to the build time. But hey the left elevator frame is ready to go into the skin and get riveted together.

I have read of one person who did the melt thing, I will call Van’s tomorrow and see what they think.
