Brief Description:  Drilled CS holes in spar for 709 rib

I did not get much done today though I spent over 4 hours in the shop. I un-clecoed the right elevator and after some practice on some scraps I machine counter-sunk the holes that will attach the 709 rib to the spar. These have to be flush rivets because the elevator horn will get riveted over the top. After that I went onto the counter weight, the DWG shows an area of the weight that get cut off. After that I decided to get started on the left elevator, I stared fluting the 703 and 704 ribs. I then drilled the holes for the hinge bearing double plates and that holes that attach the 703-704 ribs.

I test fit the 713 counter weight skin and some of the holes are not cooperating, one side is fine but the other side the holes on the counter weight rib will not line up. I tried more fluting but just can’t seem to get it to line up. I was lucky I guess with the right elevator in that they all seemed to work out well. From what I have read this is a problem with this area. I will get them as close as I can, and just accept the holes will be a little out of round. It may require a different size rivet.

I made a major goof today because I did not read the DWG. I actually almost forgot to make the cut out in the counter weight, I was looking up some information on another builder’s site and they mentioned cutting the weight. So I dutifully looked and the DWG and marked the right counter weight and cut the section out. I thought heck, while I have the tools out I will cut the left. Not thinking there would be a difference. Well after the fact I realized that the DWG say to cut the “RIGHT” counter weight not the left. The left needs more weight due to the electric trim servo. RTFD.
