I started to fabricate on of the stiffeners last night but the second one I trashed. I was trying to use aviation snips and started a cut near the bend in the stiffener and as it cut it creased the stiffener. I quit after this and ordered a new stiffener $6. This morning I tried a different tack. I read on VAF forum about a guy that used a tile saw to cut aluminum, so since I have one of those I thought I would give it a try. Well it worked like a charm. I am thinking that I will not need a band saw as long as I can find creative ways to make the cuts required.
After fabricating the stiffeners, I clecoed them in place. The bad one is clecoed in as well until I get the new one. It is not in bad shape but the crease would be a potential week spot and the rudder will get a fair amount of vibration and stress so I thought best and will wait for the new part. I can work on something else until it arrives.
