Brief Description:  Fluiting the Ribs / Matched drill VS

Well the VAF forum was a wealth of information today. Though I have a ways to go I now better understand fluting. You can see from the picture below the holes line up nicely, not perfect but nice. I understand as long as the matched hole parts go together without a lot of force you are OK.

I finished the Vertical Stab thru the match drilling. Sure were a lot of holes. My VS-806 (top of stab rib) did not have the last hole on the leading edge like the skin had. I used the skin to match drill. I am not sure if this part was supposed to have this missing or not. Most of the parts fit together nicely, there was some coaxing required but not much. All in all it was a productive day. It is nice to have an airplane looking part that I put together sitting in the garage. Next will be deburr and dimple day.

P.S. I kept seeing differences between my DWG 6 and the DWG in the preview plans. I called Van's and discovered that I have DWG 6PP and should have received DWG 6. They will be mailing the new drawing to me, but I don't think I really will need it to finish the VS. I want the correct big drawing so that I can have a complete set that is acurate and up to date. Funny thing even though the DWG is 6 PP for pre punched I assume, there are no holes shown on the ribs in the drawing.
