Brief Description:  FAB bottom fit

Today was fiberglass day. Yesterday I bent the top of the filter box to match the cowl but you have to do the same to the fiberglass bottom, so the total opening matches that of the scoop opening. I cut the sides of the box right where the slots where cut for the bend in the top and then heated the location of the bend with a heat gun to get the fiberglass soft. I then bent the glass bottom so that the opening matched that of the cowl scoop. It has a vertical opening of about 2” so I made the opening about 1/16” larger on the filter box the two will get blended together when I glass in the scoop extension back to the filter box.

The next step was to layup some layers of glass to support the opening made from the cuts to make the bend. I put on 3 layers of BID cloth, filling a bit with flox before I put on the cloth. I will sand and fill the inside in the next step tomorrow and put a thin layer of glass over the seam just the add strength.

I am also trying to make a glass version of the alternate air opening. I laid up some layers over the metal ring provided; time will tell how well I can duplicate this in glass.
