Brief Description:  EAA Inpection, Oil cooler doubler

Well today was 7 hours at the hanger and only 2 hours of hands on work, that is just how it goes sometimes. The day started with an EAA Technical Councilor spending a couple of hours inspecting my flight controls. My last inspection was before the wings and tail had been installed so I thought it was time to have an expert take a look at things. Having these inspections done is a totally voluntary program but since they don’t cost anything it seems silly not to have someone come look things over. Smitty said I was doing a good job, he did find that my flap push rod needs a bit more of a gap at the fuselage skin so I added this to my list of things to get done.

The rest of the day I spent working on where to locate the oil cooler on the back baffle. I am using a Stewart Warner 8423R cooler. This is large a larger and better quality cooler than the one Van’s supplies. Some have issues with high oil temperatures so to be safe I wanted a larger cooler. Well whenever you deviate from the plans this creates more work. After spending hours finding a location on the back baffle for the cooler I spent two hours making a new doubler plate. The one supplied with the baffle kit was a nice starting pint since the mounting holes of my cooler and the stock cooler are the same, my cooler is the same height just wider.

By the end of the day I had the doubler done and test fit with clamps.
