Brief Description:  Prepared right wing tip for nut plates

I worked on the right wing tip today. I pulled the plane out and sanded down the filler I put on the leading edge of the tip yesterday to fair the bad fit I had here. After that was done it was time to work on installing the VOR antenna into the wing. I am using the Bob Archer home grown antenna which will be hidden in the wing tip. The cat whisker antenna traditionally used would have more range but since VORs are being retired I thought I would go with this antenna, if I can’t receive the VOR station I can use GPS to navigate, really will not need VOR unless it is the only approach to an airport and then this antenna will have plenty for range for that. I am not really sure how it works but you have to route the wires for the lights along the leading edge of the antenna to prevent interference. It comes with 3 small screws that get drilled though the wing tip and then they hold clamps that hold the wires. I did not want to drill holes in the tip; I riveted on some zip tie anchors in place of the screws and will glue the antenna to the bottom of the wing.

While I was fitting one more time I sanded the aft edge of both tips, the trailing edge extended about a ¼” further aft than the ailerons, I will need to fill a bit here since I opened up some voids in the sanding process, I will also add one layer of a thin cloth just to reinforce the filler.

The rest of the day was spent drilling and counter sinking all the holes for the nut plates.
