Brief Description:  Wing root fairings

I had another long productive day today. I started off this morning re-measuring the flap travel and came up with nearly the same numbers. I took the measurements last night after a very long day and I wanted to confirm them. I also hooked up the batter and ran the flaps through the switches on the stick grip and they worked perfectly. This was kind of fun to watch actually.

The rest of the day if you can believe it was spent on the wing root fairings; these are sections of aluminum that close the gap between the wing and the fuselage. I think they do some of this stuff to make you work long hours. The instructions say to cleco the faring in place but I would not fit, it hit the fuselage side before the screw holes would line up. Not wanting to cut too much off I would sand test fit the do it all over again until they lined up. The issue was mainly with the aft root fairing but still, here will eventually have to be a 3/16 gap to allow a rubber seal to go into this area, I know since it is hand build, not every plane is the same but this could have been a lot easier had the part been sized to fit in the space minus a bit. I persevered and they turned out nice. I still have to drill the holes up to #8 for screws.

I wanted to keep making progress so I moved onto the flap fairing. I tweaked and bent it like the plans tell you and was ready to drill the fuselage side holes. After the 4th hole I realized the fairing shifted when I was drilling the first hole, my fault I did not clamp it down, I just held it. It is far enough off that I will have to order a new one. The good news is it should be a cheap part. Once this happened I cried uncle and went home.
