Brief Description:  2. Rig Ailerons

My fuel line is still at home so I moved on to aileron rigging. I bolted the drywall square I used when building the wings to one wing and used a laser level on the other. This level allows you to lock it in place then you can position the laser line where you want. I made the line run though the tooling holes which marks the neutral position. The W730 jig sets the neutral position of bell crank.

Then I installed the aileron pushrods to the control column and removed the aileron trim springs. I used the rear stick to tape the control stick in the neutral position; it is easier to get to with the wing on and the flaps off. I adjusted the aileron pushrod first then had to undo my torque on the 818 push rods; they both needed one turn to being the ailerons into the neutral position. The aileron travel was nearly identical on both (L) 29.5 UP and 16.3 DN; (R) 29.7 UP and 16.2 DN, it looks like the 5/8” Delrin rod I used on the aileron attachment works perfectly for the control stops as these numbers are within the acceptable ranges.

After nearly 8 hours of work today I went home to watch the horses run around as the neighborhood shoots off fireworks. Actually we put them in the barn and just feed them a lot to take their minds off that artillery outside.
