Brief Description:  1. Drilled Tank Support Brackets

How I spent my 4th of July, in a hanger! I worked on all the things you need to do to fit the wings. I started with the tank attach bracket (I made them the other day). It took me 2 hours to make sure the holes where going to hit the correct spot on the inside of the cockpit, I am not really sure why they do not use pre-punched holes here. I have fuel lines and electrical running behind there and I wanted to make sure these holes were clear of them.

I had marked some lines two days ago in preparation and then discovered after we installed the wings I had marked in the wrong location. It took 2 hours because I had to go inside then back out several times to be happy about where the holes in the fuselage would end up. Once I was happy with the location I drilled pilot holes in the brackets then clamped them in place to final drill to the fuselage in steps, #30, #21 then #12. Also before this I had to put the bracket in a vise to put an ever so slight bend in the bracket so that it would sit flush with the tank T405 bracket and the fuselage at the same time. I removed the brackets and deburred them but want to wait to install them until I can make the fuel vent line, there is just more room to work without this bracket in place. The bracket sits very close to the vent bulkhead fitting, so close in fact that if this fitting ever needs to be replace the bracket will have to come off because you can’t turn the bulkhead fitting nut with the bracket in place, a nice safety for the bulkhead fitting!
