No time logged in the shop building but I wanted to post my work getting a car engine stand converted for the plane’s engine. I would like to say I thought this up but I got the idea from Mike Snook, Google him and he shows a good step by step how to.
I had used this engine stand as the front part of my rotisserie for the fuselage. I needed to get the engine on something that would allow me to roll it 360 degrees so I could move the oil over the cam shaft. My pre-oiler idea did not work like I thought it would. I was looking online for ideas when I found Mr. Snook’s page. I test fit a piece of ¾ galvanized pipe to make sure it would go over the anchors of my engine stand and it did. Well when I bought a new piece at and cut it up, turns out pipe you buy now has a smaller inside diameter, or at least the stuff I bought. I went back with the stand anchor and found plain steel pipe would work fine.
As you can see in the photo it holds the engine real nice. I inverted the engine and left it that way for 20 minutes or so then on each side for about the same. I think doing this once a month should keep the anti rust oil coated on all of the internal parts.
Look updide down.
Straight and level.
Close up of the engine side. There is a 3/8 threaded rod that runs in the middle fo the pipe.
