Well it was a long day today. I was going to lay off the project today since I leave on a trip tomorrow but I could not, I knew I might be able to finish the bottom skin on the left wing. Well after 7.25 hours today the left wing riveting is done! I think I must hold the record for the most time spent riveting the outer bottom skin of one wing, I spent a total of 17.5 hours and I had some help the first day!
I am really happy with the fit, the seam between the forward skin and the aft bottom skin is nice and tight. I also test fit the Pitot tube, about my only complaint is I did not rivet the angle out enough the skin bent in a bit right at the pitot doubler. Of course I have a requisite ding, but hardly noticeable, but you know I will see every time I wash the plane, thank fully it is on the bottom of the wing. On to the right wing after my trip.
One trick I use riveting solo is a snake camera I bought from Harbor Freight last year. The video monitor is removable, so I would set up the camera then put the monitor where I could see it, kind of like having eyes inside. In the photo below you can see how I did the forward spar rivets. I placed a block of wood thick enough so that the bucking bar would be centered on the rivet. I would look at the monitor to get it lined up then rivet away. The camera was also great for checking the work.
