I have been waiting on my rivet gauge to show up from Aircraft Spruce and it never made it. So I found another one with Clear Air Tools in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The rivet gauge was too late and I already did enough damage. As I suspected, most (almost all) of the rivets I have driven were over driven. I did have the Avery type of rivet gauges, but in all honesty if I called the gauges junk - I'd be doing them a favor.
I removed some rivets and the holes were okay. Others were significantly enlarged. In most situations, I could use Oops! rivets, but I'm just not comfortable putting that many in a load bearing structure. So I ordered all new parts for the Rear Spar (the only parts I have attempted to rivet). I did order a new VS skin too. The current skin has some dings on it, and I might as well fix it while I'm at it.
Below are some pictures of the rivets. The good, the bad, and the ugly. The good rivets were driven after I received the rivet gauge. Instead of holding a bucking bar on the 470 rivets, I just put the rivet set in the vice and back-riveted them. It came out very nice.
I can't explain the others. But I promise my second attempt will be much better.

THE GOOD: The middle rivet is as close to perfect as you can get.
THE BAD: Look how over-driven those rivets are.
THE UGLY: This is why I got new parts. The bracket holds the rudder on.
