I managed to work out the details on mounting the Garmin 696. I am using a modified Stein mounting technique. I mounted a back plate to the 696 that was wide enough to accept #8 screws that come from the panel an anchor the 696 in position. Standoffs on the screws will determine depth of the unit. I didn't have 1.25 or 1.5 inch screws so that part will have to wait. I ended up making a second backing plate as the first one ended up being too narrow (edge distance on the screw hole compromised). Also I test fit the Dynon D60 (backup instrument). Looks like the cutout in the panel is perfect as is. I need to trim the tray to allow room for the AFS3500, simple. That should be an easy installation. Even the wiring sounded pretty simple on that unit.
