Brief Description:  Instrument panel access modification #2

It felt great to be back working on my airplane. Today marks two weeks since I broke my collar bone and also two weeks since my last entry. I was having major building withdrawls.

I was working on fabricating a door in the back of the baggage compartment that would allow access to the back of the instrument panel.

Today I finished trimming the hole in the back of the baggage compartment bulkhead (used a dremmel with a bit that mills the aluminum away very well - works great!). I then sanded to my satisfaction. I had one place where I got dumb with the dremel and when beyond my marks, but it turned out ok.
During my down time I ordered a 2x4 sheet of .032 2024T6 to use as a doubler for my now weakend baggage compartment aft bulkhead and also to fabricate the door itself.

I layed out and cut the opening in the doubler using my dremmel with a fiber cutoff wheel (works great).

Technique: I used the dremmel fiber cutoff wheel to cut the hole leaving about 1/8" inch from my reference lines, then I use the mill end on my dremmel to trim down to about 1/32" and then I sand with emery cloth of other sandpaper to get out to the line. I used this technique on the duckworks landing light holes in the wings and they turned out great!
