Brief Description:  DB Masonry - Shoring / Knocking Out Wall

The DB Masonry guys came bright and early this morning and brought three 2x10's bolted face to face to be used as a header beam. This was placed on top of two HUD jacks that were sitting on some wood footers to spread the load and not crack the basement concrete slab.

Once everything was shored up, they removed the window and then used a concrete saw to cut down the sides. Then it was just a matter of busting up the blocks and knocking down the wall.
They left the bottom course of blocks which creates about a 4" lip that I need to pull the plane up and over to get it out. I was worried that between the 10" header and the 4" lip I might not have clearance to get the plane out without letting the air out of the tires. I definitely would have had to do this if the header was made out of 2x12's as was originally called for by the engineer. Glad they brought 2x10's instead!!

The masonry guys took most of the day to do their thing and will be placing a tarp over the opening. The birth will take place tomorrow at which point my brother Matt will be here along with all the television and newspaper reporters.

My dad and mom are here visiting and helping for the week as well.
