Brief Description:  Hang Steel Cable above the Stairs

Matt wasn't able to make it all the way here yesterday because of the snow. He made it as far as Williamsport and had to get a room at the Fairfield Inn since they closed 15 South. I'm glad he stopped. Fortunatley he works for Marriott so it only cost him $35 for the room. That also gave me time this morning to shovel out from the snow, remove the sides of the crate, remove the door to the basement, and remove the hand rails.

Here was our plan for today:

.) Leave the engine bolted to the pallet.
.) Lift the engine/pallet out of the van with the 1-ton shop hoist I bought at Harbor Freight
.) Set the pallet/engine on a furniture dolly and roll it to the front step.
.) Manually lift it the one step up to the porch.
.) Cut the pallet with a jig saw so that it will fit through the front door.
.) Manually lift the pallet/engine up the one step into the house and set it back on the furniture dolly.
.) Disassemble the shop hoist and take it back down to the basement.
.) Roll the engine from the front door to the basement door.
). String a steel cable from the top of the doorframe at the top of the stairs down to the main support beam in the basement.
.) Hook a hand-winch to the engine and cable.
.) Hook another tie-down strap between the engine and cable as a safety measure.
.) Hook another tie-down strap to the engine to be used as a brake to slowly slide the engine down the cable to the basement
.) Use the engine hoist in the basement to unhook the engine from the cable and wheel it over to the plane.
.) Call it a day! Eat pizza and watch a movie!
