With Van's replacing the original RV-7A rudder with the larger RV-9A rudder for better spin recovery, the old rudder stops were not large enough to actually serve as stops at all. The control horn on the rudder was about 1/4" shy of hitting the stops before the rudder skins/fiberglass hit the fuselage skins. No good. While I had the tail on I decided now would be a good time to drill out the old rudder stops and fabricate new ones.I had to purchase some new and larger angle stock from Aircraft Spruce in order to do this. I traced the bases of the old stops onto the new angle, match-drilled the holes, and then just extended the aft ends another 1/4", which worked out perfectly. I'll rivet these suckers on after I remove the tail.
