Brief Description:  Locate and Drill Pitot Tube to Spar

I was scared to say the least about drilling a 7/16" hole into the bottom flange of the front spar for the pitot tube. I measured and measured and double-checked and tripple-checked and started drilling with the smallest #40 bit and worked my way up to a unibit and eventually to a 7/16" hole. It came out great!. After trial fitting the pitot tube AN fitting, the nut on the inside of the flange fits perfectly between the rivets in the skin that it is centered between. It also fits with just enough room beneath the web of the spar. I think today was my lucky day. ANY variance from the plans here and the AN fitting would have been hitting things. I am glad things worked out so well but it is still a little disconcerting seeing such a large hole in the flange of the main spar. Oh well, just following the plans. Once I had this hole drilled, I temporarily screwed in the tie-down ring and the pitot tube. Cool huh? I also snapped all of the snap bushings in the ribs for the pitot tube.
