Brief Description:  Left Wing Tip - Trailing Edge Problems

The trailing edge of the left wing tip is about 1/4" above the neutral aileron. It's also about 1/4" longer than the aileron. I think what I'll have to do is separate the trailing edge of the wing tip. This should allow me to push the back of the wing tip down to match the height of the aileron by allowing the top surface of the fiberglass tip to recede in relation to the bottom surface which should extend just a bit. After epoxying the trailing edges back together the profile of the wing tip should match that of the aileron. Then it will just be a matter of trimming the trailing edge of the fiberglass wing tip to match the trailing edge of the aileron. I also have a little trimming to do around the aileron hinge bracket.

1/5/2012 - Warning - Do not follow the plans which say to begin at the leading edge and drill aft while alternating holes between the top and bottom. I did this while Heather focused on pushing and holding the wing tip as tight as possible into the wing - both inward and forward towards the leading edge. This resulted in the trailing edge sitting about 1/4" about the surface of the aileron. What I found out later when I went to remove the wing tip by pulling out all of the bottom clecos first is that the tip sagged right into position and flush with the aileron with just the top clecoes holding the tip on. I ended up redrilling the bottom holes in the fiberglass tip after clamping the trailing edge flush with the aileron and having just the top clecoes in. I'll be using an aluminum reinforcement strip so that should cover the missed drilled holes on the bottom along with some epoxy filler.
