Brief Description: Completed Right Elevator; started Left
The right elevator was riveted together today. I forgot to mention that a dab of RV Ultra Blue silicon was placed at each intersection of the top and bottom skin stiffeners at the trailing edge before clecoing on the spar and ribs. Most of the rivets along the spar and ribs could be squeezed. There were a few that had to be bucked though since the yoke's that I had would not reach. I was able to avoid using pop rivets in the tight spaces at the trailing edge by making a bucking bar out of a chisel. I polished the edges on the grinder, sander, and then the scotchbrite wheel. This worked out pretty well although it took quite a while with the rivet gun to set these rivets because of the relatively light weight of the chisel. Once the right elevator was riveted together, I started working on the left elevator. I was able to cleco on all of the stiffeners and match drill them to the skin, along with the E615 access plate.
