Brief Description:  Cut, Drill, Countersink Upper Right Piano Hinge

The piano hinge that fastens the upper cowl to the firewall is split into a left and right half,,,or rather a right quarter and a left two-thirds. There is a 3-4" gap between them that will be used to slide the pins in and out.

I was worried about drilling the hinges to the firewall flanges since I had already dimpled both the top skins and the flanges so the hinges wouldn't initially sit flush against the inside of the flanges since they weren't obviously drilled and countersunk themselves. This didn't turn out to be problem though. I used side grip clecos to hold the hinges secure to the flanges and then match-drilled the hinges.

Once the right hinge was drilled I countersunk and deburred everything and then clecoed it back to the firewall flange. It sits nice and flush now in the pre-dimpled flanges.
