The first step in the process is to go to my LOWES airplane parts place and purchase some blue foam insulation to build some fiberglass templates. The insulation is only about 3 inches thick, so I had to glue some pieces together. The first model I made was a little short for what I decided as the final design so I made right and left foam models which I will cover with fiberglass. I cut them on my bandsaw and sanded them with 100 grit sandpaper. The upper and lower fairing sides are compound angles and the entire foam model has to taper from end-to-end. Now that I’ve spent two full days designing these, I’m wondering if it is worth all the time. Oh, what the heck, I already have nearly 6000 hours into this dang thing; what’s a few more going to matter?
