A friend of mine who built an RV-14 inadvertently overheated his brakes and started a fire. Apparently, the standard Brake Caliper Seals are not high-temp and when the brakes overheated, the seals failed and that’s what caused the fire. I took his advice and purchased some High-Temp O-Rings and installed them on the brake caliper pistons. Disassembling the brake is straightforward. First, I remove the safety wires and assembly bolts. Then the brake caliper drops out onto the floor. Next, I disconnected the hydraulic line and removed the brake caliper assembly. I placed the assembly into a disposable plastic bag, added a small amount of air pressure to blow out the cylinder, then replaced the standard O-rings with High Temp O-rings. Finally, I reassembled the assembly and safety wired the caliper bolts.
