Brief Description: Installing the Fiberglass Spinner (Cont.)
|
|
From my previous posting, I had wrapped a string around the base of my spinner. Next, I marked the beginning and end marks of the string with a sharpie, removed it from the base of the spinner, measured the total distance of the diameter, divided by 2 and made a mark of the string. I placed the string back on the base of the spinner and marked the center point on the spinner. I flipped the template over and aligned the centerline, then marked a new “reversed” cutout on the spinner; exactly 180 degrees from the first (because the propeller blades are twisted in opposite directions). Then, I took a very deep breath and hoped I hadn’t screwed this all up, and used my jig saw to cut out the holes. (Side Note: The RV-14 spinner comes with these cutout holes already scribed on the spinner…my RV-7 plans came with one picture and a couple pages explaining how to cut out a spinner for a fixed-pitched prop; no templates, no measurements, not even an explanation how to measure this for a constant speed prop…who wudda thunk?)
