Brief Description:  Main Gear Wheel Pants Fiberglass Work

I decided I needed more self-flagellation, so I did all the same things to the main gear wheel pants (Cutting Tire Air Door Access, Fabricating Backer Plates and Doors, Fixing Flaws and Fitting Issues, Embedding Tinnerman Washers, Prepping to get rid of Pinholes, Drilling holes for Rivets, Deburring, Countersinking for rivet heads, Installing K-1000 Platenuts for access door flush screws, and well…you get it, I’m sure.) One thing I didn’t have to do on the Noe Gear Wheel Pant is enlarge the bottom oblong-shaped hole for tire clearance. One of my hangar-mates used the VAN’s recommended hole size for his RV-14 and on the first landing, one of the wheels smooshed on a slightly hard landing and destroyed the wheel pant…AND THAT WAS ON AN RV-14 which has awesome instructions and scribe lines on where to cut on every piece of fiberglass! So, doing due diligence, I measured and cut NEW holes so my tires wouldn’t smoosh and destroy my Main Wheel Pants!
