Brief Description:  Shelling the Upper and Lower Cowl (Cont.

Over the past two weeks I have added and sanded West Systems Epoxy, white tint, and microbeads to both the upper and lower cowls. I’ve come to realize however slowly I mix the resin, I introduce very small air bubbles which, when applied with either a brush or foam roller transfer to the smooth fiberglass surface. Adding a small amount of microbeads to the epoxy resin seems to reduce the air bubbles significantly and generally tends to make the resin easier to sand. The pictures below show the completed lower cowl after final sanding with 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I still have to prime with a high-quality automotive paint primer, but at least I think I have all the pinholes filled. I have the upper cowl coated with multiple layers of tinted epoxy resin and will sand to finish over the next week. I plan to apply the same process to the gear fairings and the wheel pants over the next couple of months.
