Brief Description: Glazing Applied to Lower Cowl (Cont.)
After applying glazing putty to the worst areas of the lower cowl outer surface and sanding with 80/100/120 grit sandpaper, I applied glazing putty to the entire outer surface of the cowl using a rubber squeegee to fill pinholes and get the cowl ready for paint-priming. This process is very time-consuming. To speed up the sanding, I used a small palm sander on the flat areas, but all the curved surfaces have to be sanded by hand using half sheets of sandpaper rolled around Scotch-Brite pads. The glazing compound is considerably easier to sand than epoxy resin, but it still requires a lot of work. The pictures below show the glazing compound material spread as thin as I could get it around all the curved areas of the cowl. Then, I sanded it all off to a smooth finish.
