The upper and lower pink fiberglass cowls have a single coat of epoxy on the outer, rough fiberglass finish. The majority of the finish has pinholes, deformities, and divets that are up to 1/8” wide and 1/32” deep in-and-around the honeycomb. I considered attempting to fill these with microbeads and epoxy but it would take multiple coats and this is very hard to sand. So, I some high-quality glazing compound formulated for automotive fiberglass that incorporates a bonding hardener. I applied this to the worst areas of the lower cowl. After 24 hours of curing time, I successively sanded with 80/100/120 grit. When doing this, I learned not to sand too deep, or you end up reapplying the glazing compound and re-sanding. The pictures below show the bondo-like glazing of the worst areas on the lower cowl.
