Brief Description:  Nose Gear Fairing Over the Gear Stiffener (Cont.)

Today I marked and removed the Nose Gear Stiffener (Nose Job Two) and ground the trailing edge to a 45-degree bevel where the fairing hinge rivets and pop rivets were pressing against the stiffener. I removed approximately ¼” material from the trailing edge of the stiffener. Then, I reinstalled the stiffener carefully readjusting the stiffener so it correctly protrudes into the aft moving airflow and won’t yaw the nose to the right (before I install the fairing, I’ll double-check the alignment). Next, I added fiberglass cloth and epoxy to the damaged fairing. I also added a layer of clear epoxy to the entire surface of the fairing to cover the pop rivets I installed and to fill in the massive number of fiberglass pinholes. I’ll let that cure while my family and I go on a week-long camping trip.
