Brief Description: Decorative RV-7A Cowling Hinge Pin Covers
Several months ago, I ordered a set of RV-7A Cowling Hinge Pin Covers from Aerosport Products to cover the piano-hinge pin ends that hold my upper and lower cowling in-place. The first picture is my original hole I cut into the cowling to insert the hinge pins. The 2nd picture shows the hole enlarged to fit the decorative covers. I used a step-drill to make the beginning hole, then used a Dremel rotary sanding tool to VERY CAREFULLY sand out the oval shape. Aerosport includes a template that is very useful because the thickness of the cowling varies around the front curvature. After I cut the holes, I fiberglassed 5 layers of 2”-wide cloth onto the back of the holes as supports for the pin covers (3rd picture). I will allow this to cure overnight.
