Brief Description: Install Oil Access Door (Cont.)
I waited 48 hours to make sure the fiberglass epoxy was fully cured, then sanded the entire area with 80 grit and 120 grit sandpaper to get the fiberglass layup smooth. This identified all the low spots and areas with the inevitable pinholes. I applied another layer of white-tinted epoxy to the low areas and areas with pinholes. Additionally, I built up the edges of the indented area where the oil access door closes onto, so the epoxy was tight against the door, when closed. After the epoxy cures, I will file this area to provide approximately 1/8” clearance to allow for paint.
