Today, I began fabricating the Oil Access Door. First, I marked the door cutout based upon using a spring-loaded latch I purchased and Skybolt z-loc fasteners and measurements I made on the engine oil filler tube location. I really didn’t have any instructions, so I made some calibrated guesses to mark the cutout. After some minor adjustments, I drilled some corner “rounding” holes and some holes to maneuver a jigsaw; then cut out the access hole. I made sure I had adequate room to mount the Skybolt z-loc fasteners and the spring-loaded latch assembly. After I made the initial cutout, I placed a spacer/reinforcing plate in the hole and cut a matching reinforcement plate for riveting the fiberglass. Next, I etch-primed then riveted the reinforcement plate and the spring-loaded latch in-place after I step-drilled the access holes for the Skybolt z-loc fasteners.
