Brief Description:  Fiberglass Inlet Ramps

I decided to fiberglass the inboard side of the Inlet ramps to prevent air from burbling underneath the inlets. The side closest to the center baffles should be sealed by the rubber seals, but just in case they don’t seal correctly, I closed-in this space. Before I did any fiberglass work, I duct-taped the outboard baffling rubber seals to get them out of the way. The one other comment in my instructions was to make sure I installed both the upper and lower cowls, including hinge pins, to make sure fiberglassing the inlet ramps didn’t distort the upper cowl so it wouldn’t fit correctly onto the lower cowl. After taping the rubber seals, I cut two inserts for the inlet ramps out of blue foam sheets. Then, I fiberglassed a layer of cloth over the foam. Next, I fiberglassed the inlet ramps using flox and applying Vaseline to the clecos so I could remove them after the fiberglass set up. I did this all-in-step, mainly because I am very impatient when it come to fiberglass. Hind-sight tells me this was not a good thing to do. I should have fiberglassed the blue foam onto the inlet ramps, let it set up and cure, then flox the ramps onto the cowlings. The way I did it was a mess and I’m surprised I didn’t ruin the entire fabrication.
