Brief Description:  Install Air/Water Separator Drain Hoses & Fuel Pum

It’s finally time to install the Air/Water Separator Drain Hoses & Fuel Pump Vent hoses. Once again, not a lot of fun because of all the “stuff” in the way. The Lycoming Engine has an oil sump “breather oil” blow-by vent to separate water from the oil. As originally designed, it vents this “oil mist” overboard and consequently the belly of the engine gets a light oil spray. Over time this gets dirty and makes a mess. A couple years ago, I purchased an ASA Air/Water Separator “Splat Tube” to catch oil blow-by, filter out the water, and drain the oil into a filter assembly which can be drained during the annual inspections. The water is vented overboard onto an exhaust pipe as it exits the back of the cowling. Additionally, there is a fuel pump vent blow-by that vents air and a minute amount of fuel if the pressure is too high. Both these drain onto the exhaust pipe. What I am installing and showing in these pictures are these two drain pipes terminating at the exhaust pipe. After I installed the drains, I started to mount the Oil Cooler to the back of the aft right baffle. Unfortunately, I cross-threaded one of the fittings and have to order a new one from Aircraft Spruce…GRRR.
