Brief Description:  Fabricating and Installing Baffle Tension Rods

Before I do the final Snorkel and Air Filter mounting, I have to fabricate four stainless steel tension rods which hold the curved bottoms of the front and rear baffles. As per the standard VAN’s diagrams, I’ve learned not to make any cuts or fabricate any parts without first measuring, fitting, and deciding if what they ask me to do will actually work. Once again, if I had followed instructions to the letter, I would have been buying new parts and redoing the work. I used some scrap wire to figure out what bends and lengths I needed to cut the steel rods. The first picture shows the front curved parts to be tied together. The second picture shows what the bent rods finally looked like to fit properly. The 3rd picture shows a vinyl sheath I put on the rods in case there was vibration-caused rubbing on the bottom of the engine. In the next set of diagrams, I’ll show the rods mounted.
