Brief Description:  Installing the Filter Bypass Door (Cont.)

Installing the filter bypass door required I bend and partially crimp a stop-tab at the top, then mount a nutplate on the bottom of the flange. The top of the flange is flush with the Snorkel air box but the bottom is not flush and has to be epoxied using phlox (finely chopped fiberglass) and polyester resin. You have to apply the phlox paste to bridge the gap between the flange and the outside face of the Snorkel. Next you temporarily clamp this together using clekos, let it cure overnight, sand and refill with clear epoxy and microbeads. I decided to paint the entire airbox when I was finished. I also attached the Snorkel to the Inlet Filter Mounting brackets. In a couple weeks I will attach the filter bypass control cable to the bypass door. I’ve finally learned not to route cables, wires or anything else until I am all done fiddling/installing stuff on the backside of the engine. (i.e. I still have to mount some drains for blowby fuel, install blast tubes for the magnetos and fuel pump, install the battery, and rout some sensor wires on this side of the engine).
