Brief Description: Installing the VA-132 Air Injection Snorkel (Cont.
Now that I had the “centering” issue solved, I tried to get the snorkel flush against the Bendix RSAS injector air throttle body so there was at least 1/8” clearance around the engine housing, starter, and the front of the alternator mount…problem number 2! The fabricated snorkel was approximately ½” too fat and it didn’t clear the front of the alternator mount. I did the best I could to get it as flush to the injector air throttle body as it would go because the next step is to shine a light into the back of the injector throttle body to mark where to drill ¼” holes into the snorkel. You can see how far off flush the snorkel was so I thought, “I’ll shine a light and mark the holes; then drill them; and maybe it will fit once I get bolts into the holes.” The problem here was when I shine a light through the intake body holes onto a non-flush, fiberglass snorkel; you get a cone shaped light-projection that is ¾” instead of ¼” and you have to guess at where the center should be. I did that, and unfortunately drilled the holes just like the instructions said. (See the next log entry to continue this very sad saga…)
