Manual Reference:  VA-132 Snorkel
Brief Description:  Installing the VA-132 Air Injection Snorkel

The VA-132-1 Snorkel is designed to provide filtered air to the Bendix RSAS injector air throttle body for horizontal draft engines on the RV-7/7A. This snorkel was supposed to be molded to fit perfectly around an IO-360M1B 180 hp engine fitted with a Sky-tech starter with a left-side solenoid…but guess what, I got an early production snorkel and like most things, it doesn’t fit without modifications. At least this is made out of fiberglass and I can modify the danged thing with fiberglass patches. So, the first thing I was supposed to do insert a ¾” plywood 2-3/8” circular plug into the center of the VA-132-1 Snorkel so it will be centered on the Bendix RSAS injector air throttle body; then they refer you to photo 1 (which shows the “circular plug” taped onto the Bendix RSAS Injector. Obviously, the picture they show wasn’t a Bendix RSAS Injector Body because on mine there is a 1/16” deep beveled 2-3/16” circular hole with air inlets preventing you from taping anything circular into it…I guess that’s why they tell you to put the centering plug into the snorkel inlet hole. I didn’t have any hole cutting bits that were 2-3/8” so I took a roll of electrician’s tape and peeled it back until it just fit perfectly into the snorkel-hole. I don’t show it in the picture, but I also had to cut the tape at the half-way point, peel it back and bevel the peeled portion to fit perfectly into the beveled Bendix air injector body…Centering problem solved!
