Brief Description:  Installing the Vetterman Crossover Exhaust

Once I got the Throttle Control Mounting Bracket refabricated, I installed the Vetterman Crossover Exhaust. Getting the pipes installed was pretty straight-forward. Each pipe is marked to correspond to the cylinder it goes on. The system uses stainless steel bolts to hold the slip joints together and each cylinder attach pint uses a blow-proof gasket. I also used anti-seize compound on the exhaust studs, tightened and torqued the bolts to 190 inch-pounds. They went together very nicely and only took about 3 hours to install. The issues came when I started to fabricate the tailpipe supports. Vetterman’s (actually now sold to another company) includes all the materials to make the rear supports but the vertical supports attach to the engine block and I had one nut that took 5 ½ hours to install because it was extremely difficult to get to, the stud was painted, and the threads were messed up. Talk about an exercise in frustration! After 4 hours I broke-out the beer and ‘VOILA’, I finally got the nut on! I’m thinkin’ “If I had only broke out the beer a few hours earlier…”
