Brief Description:  Process of Fitting Upper & Lower Cowlings

I started by adjusting the front of the upper cowling. I used the instructions I borrowed from an RV-14A builder who is a hangar co-owner with me and two other guys. VANs finally got it right with the RV-14. If I had followed the original plans I received when I purchased my firewall-forward kit, I would have ruined my cowlings; so, I guess the moral of this story is, if you are building an RV-7 or earlier model, consider the plans as a very loose “suggestion” on how to build, because more than not, they are incorrect. Using the RV-14 instructions and plans is very helpful; however, even then there are some differences between RV-14 and RV-7 cowlings, so you have to be careful and very patient. I spent several hours today making very slight sanding adjustments and very slowly the two cowlings began to match up.
