Brief Description:  SkyBolt Quarter-Turn Fasteners

Today I sanded the remaining upper cowl to compensate for paint. It turned out well and I have a consistent spacing between the cowl and the fuselage that is approximately the thickness of a playing card. After I was satisfied with the sanding, I drilled the center holes for the SkyBolt quarter turn fasteners. This was a little challenging, but by the end of the day I got all the holes drilled to attach the fasteners. I need to have the upper cowling securely in-place before I attempt to fit the bottom cowling. On a more disappointing note, today I heard back from VANs concerning the incorrect Vetterman Crossover exhaust system they sent me 15 years ago with my firewall forward kit. The one they originally sent me was for an RV-8 vs RV-7. I attempted to exchange the one they sent me for the correct one, but unfortunately their management wouldn’t take it back; even though they acknowledged they sent me the wrong one. In retrospect, there’s been so much wrong with this airplane and VANs incredibly outdated/inaccurate builder’s plans over the years, I wish I had never bought the kit. But I did…and I need to get it flying or I will never recoup a third of the money I have into it. The bright side is, one of the guys in our hangar is building an RV-8A. His engine is different than mine, but there is a possibility this exhaust system may fit his engine. If it does, I’ll give it to him, if not, I guess I’ll try sell it through VANs Forum. No sense in whining; it accomplishes nothing. VANs should have made this right, though. C’est la vie…shit happens!
