Brief Description:  FabricateThrottle and Mixture Brackets

The Van’s supplied Throttle and Mixture Brackets and/or Throttle and Mixture Control Cable-lengths and/or specified locations for the Throttle and Mixture through-points on the Firewall don’t work with a Van’s IO 360-M1B Engine. The control cables are too short given the locations VAN’s specified to come through the firewall. Since it is now not feasible to move the firewall locations for the control cables without removing the engine, I have no choice but to refabricate the mounting brackets and purchase cable extenders. I haven’t mounted the Vetterman Crossover Exhaust System yet, so I hope the location of the Throttle Control Cable coming through the firewall has adequate clearance past the exhaust headers. In any case, after getting the brackets mounted and realizing neither one of them was going to work, I removed them from the engine case and re-bent the cable mounting tabs and put them both on backwards and upside down. Now, at least the mounts have adequate threads on the cables. I also drilled and safety-wired the throttle mounting bracket bolts…I sure hope the throttle cable adequately clears the exhaust headers. I really wish VANs would update their plans when they make changes from the originals; especially when I see what they’ve done on the RV-14! Before I do much more with the cables, I’m going to dry-fit the Vetterman Exhaust on the right side of the engine to check for clearance. I may need to do something else to get the cable to fit. I’m also guessing the Propellor Control Cable will have all the same issues.
